RORY FEEK: An Evening of Storytelling and Music · JUNE 21, 2023 at Timbercrest
Join us for a rare appearance of Storyteller and Musician Rory Feek on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Timbercrest.
Farmer and filmmaker, author and artist, Rory Feek is a world-class storyteller who crosses all creative mediums from music and film to books and digital media.
Rory is one-half of the Grammy-award-winning duo, Joey+Rory and has written multiple number-one songs, including “Some Beach” by Blake
Shelton and “A Little More Country Than That” by Easton Corbin. His memoir, This Life I Live, debuted at the top of the New York Times Bestseller List, and his children’s books are family favorites everywhere. And on his blog, he shares his heart and story of unwavering faith and hope in the face of tragedy that can inspire millions of readers who follow their story.
Rory and his 8-year-old daughter, Indiana, live an hour south of Nashville on a historic farm where she attends a one-room schoolhouse right on the property with more than a dozen other children from the community.
This June 21 event is a fundraiser for Juneberry Hill School near Winesburg, Ohio. Juneberry is modeled after Rory’s Hardison Mill School in Tennessee.
A former public-school teacher, Lisa has homeschooled their children and is has served their family very well. The public school was not a good fit and the private schools in the area do not extend admission to students with special needs. The Millers wanted to create a community of learners in a small, supportive environment to give their children a chance to learn alongside other students.
Inspired by Rory Feek and Hardison Mill School, the one-room schoolhouse he built on his homestead for his daughter Indiana to attend, the Miller family has followed his model. Except, rather than building a new schoolhouse, they purchased two one-room schoolhouses built in the mid-1800’s and are rebuilding them in their pasture.
At Juneberry Hill Schoolhouse, academic skills will be taught alongside practical life skills. It is a place where the gardens, orchard, barns, and pastures are just as much a part of the classroom as the space inside the schoolhouse.
Most important to the Miller family is that the schoolhouse be a place where all students are valued members of the community, whether their needs are unique or typical.
The Juneberry Hill Schoolhouse dream taking shape
Juneberry Hill Schoolhouse is a multi-age, inclusive one-room schoolhouse where practical life skills, friendships, and character building are emphasized as well as traditional academic curriculum.
